Anger: Huck

Disclaimer: I am a FRED!-head. The candidate in the Republican race I fear most is Gov. Huckabee. The Governor is the polar opposite of your host, a religious whackjob/social con and a fiscal liberal. He is governed by his faith and his “heart” on matters that should be governed by his brains and common sense.

If the race came down to Huck and Hillary!, well… um… I just might be forced to vote for Hillary!

[GASP] Did he just say he would vote for Hillary!???? Yes… yes I did… I know I said I would vote for the devil himself before Hillary!, but I didn’t think someone like Huck would seriously be in contention.

The Republicans have achieved something of a milestone here. They actually have someone leading in the polls that would drive me to Hillary! That took some doing.

Anyway, the point of this is to bring attention to this Huffington Post article.

Good GOD! He just favorably linked the Huffington Post! What a mad, crazy world! Volcanoes, floods, earthquakes, cats and dogs living together, real wrath of God type stuff must surely be upon us!

Now it is the Huffington Post so I am not inclined to believe it on the face, but if Huck really did let out a serial rapist based even in part on the fact the the victim was Bill Clinton’s cousin, holy Jebus! Again, IF it is true, it shows a stunning lack of judgment and a side of Huck that makes him even more repulsive as a candidate (as if that were possible).

Read the article and judge for yourself. Let me know if you think it is typical HP trash or there really is a “there” there. I am much to biased against Huck to be sure that what I read there is not influenced by my extreme dislike for the Governor.

UPDATE: Allah has a post related to this, without the invective (for those of you who dislike invective). He includes an interesting quote that illustrates with great precision why I am against Huck.

‘You’re a conservative, so I’m sure you oppose granting parole for violent felons,’” says Dick Morris, the campaign consultant who ran Huckabee’s first run for lieutenant governor. “And he said, ‘Oh no, I would never take that position, because the concept of Christian duty requires that there is a possibility of forgiveness. The concept of Christian forgiveness requires that we keep open the process of parole — use it sparingly, but keep it open.’”
Again Huck is guided by religion and not cold hard facts. This quote, while NOT about this case, certainly points to his involvement as the HuffPo charges.

  2. I’d be careful about that “religious whack-job” stuff. I’m a devout Catholic. The Church teaches that conscience, including the acceptance of religious dictates, is an individual matter. It also prescribes respect for legitimate law and legitimate secular authorities. So: Am I a whack-job? If so, how would I have to change to pass your test?

Now, imagine that a president were to issue a commutation or a pardon to someone you disapprove, or under circumstances you disapprove. Imagine further that he thereafter declined to discuss his reasons for it. You know him to be a religious man, and you know that his faith prescribes forgiveness for the repentant. Would you ascribe his decision to his “whack-jobbedness?” If so, why? If not, why not?

  3. I could see why you might not want to vote Huckabee, but then why vote for Clinton? Vote for one of the third party candidates, if they meet your standards, or if no candidate is acceptable, dont cast a vote for POTUS.

As far as the accuracy of the story-dont know. I can see some avenues of research that could lead to doubt, but dont have any desire to go there. Huckabee tho needs to clearly answer the accusations and put it to bed if he wants to move forward.

  4. Francis and PBob,

    Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I would not consider you a whack-job Francis simply because you:

    1) Managed to write a coherent comment without the use of religious phraseology.

    2) Expressed a view that , while the church is important to you, you understand that there is a legitimate secular world out here.

    3) Didn’t try to shove your religion down my throat

In your example, yes I would. Why? Because you gave me no other choice. I know only 2 things about this President, he holds the office and he is religious. Given that I would also have to assume that he takes a leak in the morning because of his religion.

PBob, I would vote not FOR Hillary! but AGAINST Huck. I have looked at the Libertarian Party and even voted that way a number of times, but like it or not this is a 2 party system and the only vote to keep Huck out of office is to vote for the evil of 2 lessors.

  5. Which sin is it when you vote for the lessor of two evils?

  6. Heh. Good one, I want to say “Pride”, but maybe “Anger/Wrath” is better.
